IS FREE! An honest review. Aquarelle paper of different brands (economy version) is tested by Sergey Kurbatov.

Course content.

Watercolor paper is the material needed for painting. A novice artist is not always ready to pay a lot of money for consumables, and he does not know what to choose from an inexpensive segment.

In this issue of HONEST REVIEW x artist Sergey Kurbatov put aside his “reliable watercolor paper” and tested cheap watercolor paper from different manufacturers and brands: Fabriano, Nevskaya Palitra, Lilia Holding, Palazzo Premium, SM-LT Art. Among them there are cellulose, cotton and blended papers of different weights. For the purity of the experiment, he tries these materials for the first time and does not just paint, but draws the same work on all sheets.

We will find out how sheets

behave in dry and wet form, how they absorb paint and for which work they are suitable?

Course Outcome.

you will hear what this or that paper is “capable of”; learn how the composition of paper affects its properties; understand how paper interacts with water (drying, spreading); get to know different paper textures – different types of surfaces; see how paint pigments behave on paper depending on the brand; understand how to select paper in accordance with your goal; take part in testing with a professional artist;

If you wish, write a quick fantasy landscape and / or feel free to test your own materials to understand their properties.

In this issue of Honest Review, artist Sergey Kurbatov tests watercolor paper from different manufacturers. This paper is from one price segment (low), available to novice artists, so that they do not have the fear of spoiling more expensive material in their work. One fantasy landscape will serve as a test for paper, in which all the basic techniques used by Sergey will merge: simple fills on dry paper, fills on wet paper, working with stains, scratching, etc.

If you are new to watercolor technique, Sergey advises you to experiment with different manufacturers and look for what works for you..

HONEST REVIEW. School of drawing Enterclass opens a new section – Honest Review. Our master artists will share with you their personal experience of working with a variety of art materials and tools.

They will tell you about the products of different manufacturers, which they use themselves or those that they tried for the first time during testing in our studio. They will explain what to look for when buying, suggest how to select brushes, paper and / or paints according to your own creative challenge. The story will be supported by a practical painting process, and sometimes even a final painting.
